VERSE(TM) is a dynamic computer simulation package for adsorption and liquid chromatography systems. Based on a detailed rate model, VERSE (TM) has the power to simulate the separation using a variety of parameters, including: multiple components, detailed mass-transfer mechanisms (axial dispersion, convection, film mass transfer, intraparticle pore diffusion and surface diffusion), equilibrium and nonequilibrium adsorption/ion exchange, reactions in the solution or sorbent phase, competition between solutes for sorbent sites, different operating modes of chromatography, and various bed processes (fixed, fluidized, expanded). VERSE (TM) has been expanded to consider more than just the traditional single column operation. The latest features are: recycle chromatography, countercurrent moving beds, and simulated moving bed chromatography. VERSE(TM) is written in FORTRAN 90 and is available on various platforms, including: Sun OS, HP 700 series, Digitial Unix, and Windows on personal computers. A comprehensive manual is available that provides users with a list of available choices of functionalities and correlations. VERSE(TM) can simulate adsorption chromatography separation for virtually any set of compounds imaginable. This simulation will provide significant cost savings by substantially reducing the number of experimental "column runs" normally required to study all possible operating parameters in a separation. Separations requiring fifty or more column runs could be completed in a single simulation.
