Overall Structure

  1. User-Friendly System
    • Useful for individuals, groups, and enterprises as events-management tool.
    • Users and Administrators can interact with the Events calendar system through a number of current browsers.
    • No HTML or database programming experience is required.
    • No new hardware or software is required.
    • No HTML or database programming experience is required.
  2. Cost Effective Subscription and Referral Program
    • Simple subscription requires small monthly fee (reduced price for yearly payment)
    • For each organization that your organization refers that stays at least 4 months, your organization will receive credit for an extra month of service.
    • For each organization that your organization refers that purchases a yearly subscription, you will receive an extra 3 months of service.
    • Other referral options are being investigated.
  3. Modularity*
    • Administrators can easily manage multiple, enterprise-level event calendar systems using the included MySQL database structure.
    • Administrators can easily differentiate between organizations or sections of organizations (for example, the UNM Advancement Calendar and UNM Today).
  4. Sub-calendars
    • Administrators can establish unlimited sub-calendars (application with 20 or more calendars will be priced separately). Each subcalendar’s events can be specified to roll up to the next higher calendar.
    • Events can be marked as public or private on the calendar in which they are entered. Private events will only be visible to on a particular sub-calendar.
  5. Cascading Style Sheet Integration
    • Users can customize the overall coloring and style of the calendars. Coloring and style sets can also be exported and downloaded from the internet.
  6. Skins
    • Users can customize the overall structure and layout of the various calendar pages (all pages and layouts are fully customizable).
  7. Custom Event Data/Presentation*
    • Users can add event-specific, calendar-specific, or system-wide hyperlinks, custom images, custom colors (see css and skins above) and/or custom icons.
    • Users can add new fields and/or forms to display additional event information in the event management module in order to fit custom needs (for example, the Presidential Attendance Status along with custom images and icons).

Normal Use:

  1. Many, flexible options for viewing and PDF printing your events:
    • Four (4) different calendar timeframe views (e.g. Year View, Month View, Week View, or Day View) can each be displayed in Two (2) modes (e.g. calendar or customized list mode)
    • In any of the above 8 view-mode combinations, event drill-down is supported to obtain more detailed information.
    • All calendar views and modes can be converted to Portable Document Format (PDF) and easily saved and transferred for quality printing or sending via email.
  2. Sub-Calendar Legend*
    • A legend is included at the bottom of each page to more easily differentiate the various sub-calendars.
    • The user can change the legend coloring.
    • Different sub-calendars can be added as layers by select one or multiple calendars in the footer.
  3. Searching*
    • Calendars can be searched for specific events over various date ranges (past, future, or all dates)
    • Optional searches can specify certain sub-calendars.
    • All search results are fully sortable and printable.
  4. RSS Feeds*
    • Links RSS feeds for any sub-calendar are available by clicking on the name of the calendar in the sub-calendar legend at the bottom of each page.
    • Featured Events* (e.g. those events marked as "featured") are then scrolled in the upper-left portion of the screen using RSS feeds.
    • Only featured events occurring in the future are scrolled.
    • Past events are automatically skipped.


Administrative Back-end:

  1. Four Password-Protected User Levels (in addition to system administrator)
  2. Varying levels of user functionality are available by choosing between four user types: Public View, Private View, Event Manager, and Calendar Administration.
  3. Passwords are stored with the database in encrypted form for security.
  4. User Management
    • Users can be added, modified, and deleted.
    • All access levels can be applied over specific sub-calendars.
  5. Calendar Management
    • Calendars can be added, modified, and deleted.
    • Coloring and style for each calendar can also be specified.
  6. Event management
    • Events can be added as a normal, one-day event, a multi-day event, or a recurring event.
    • Messages for scheduling conflicts are displayed for multi-day events.
    • An email option to notify others of a particular event is standard.
  7. System backup
    • Entire calendar system is backed up nightly.
    • Event log records all changes to events.
    • Any event can be restored to its state at any point in the log.
  8. Statistics
    • Statistics are kept for calendars and events, showing how many times each were viewed.
    • Basic web statistics are also available (using standard urchin5 reporting)
  9. Customization Services Available through University of New Mexico and Web Galleries:
    • The above standard features might not be enough for your organization. For example, one of our events calendars, The UNM Advancement Calendar, automatically sends an email with an attached PDF to the Office of the President with a Cc: to the requestor whenever the president's attendance is requested for an event.
    • The above and other types of customizations can be made by request.
